But the vote total is not what makes a vote difficult, rather the issue can be seen from both sides, or a bill can be constructed with some important action, but some undesired aspect.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet not the passion I have, nor the passion of those around me<br \/>\nSway me from my decision to reflect justice.<\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet not the narrow position I defend reduce<br \/>\nThe broad sense of justice it defends.<\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet me hear the positions of those who will vote<br \/>\nAgainst me, and in hearing, understand them.<\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet my understanding of others broaden my base<br \/>\nTo encompass all, yet leave me grounded.<\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet me not fear the anger and approbation of the opposition,<br \/>\nFor their approval has no weight on the scale of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet me welcome and cherish the difficult choice,<br \/>\nUnanimous, nay even majority are not the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Dear God,<br \/>\nLet me know when I\u2019ve done my duty to You;<br \/>\nEither side may win, I wish alone to be true.<\/p>\n<p>21 March 2016<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is not widely known that most votes in the Idaho Senate are unanimous, though I had a few 34-1 where I was the one.
